Where is the app after I open it?
JSON Beautifier lives in the menu bar at the top right of your screen: click the { } icon to open the panel. It has no Dock icon and no main window. If you cannot see the icon, your menu bar may be full; try closing a few other menu bar apps or hold Cmd and drag icons to make room.
How do I beautify JSON quickly?
Open the panel, press Paste (or Cmd+V in the editor), then press Cmd+Return or Beautify. Press Copy to put the result on the clipboard. Minify turns it into a single compact line.
What kinds of broken JSON can it repair?
Comments (// and /* */), trailing or missing commas, single quotes and smart (curly) quotes, unquoted keys, Python-style True, False and None, unclosed brackets at the end of the text, and stringified JSON such as "{\"a\":1}". After a repair the app tells you what it fixed.
It says there is an error it cannot fix.
The message shows the line and column of the problem, and that line is highlighted in the editor. Fix it there and press Beautify again. If you think the app should have repaired it, send us a sample.
How do I use the tree view and search?
Switch to Tree to browse the document. Use +/- to open or close an object or array, or Expand All and Collapse All. Press Cmd+F and type to see only the matching keys and values and the path to them. Right-click a node to copy its value, a minified version of it, or its key.
Will it change my numbers or the order of my keys?
No. Key order stays exactly as written, and numbers are kept exactly as written: 129.990 stays 129.990 and large IDs never lose precision.
Is my JSON sent anywhere?
No. The app works completely offline and makes no network connections. See the Privacy Policy.
How do I quit the app?
Open the panel from the menu bar and press Quit.
Which macOS versions are supported?
macOS 14 Sonoma or later.
